The Greatest Comfort We Will Ever Know
The Trials Are Coming
Have you ever thought, “Wow, life is pretty good right now?”
It seems that inevitably, whenever I have thoughts like this, I get hit with a huge burden. So I pick myself back up and go again. And then it happens again. And again.
This life is full of trials, hard times and burdens. Once you get through one, another one is coming. We have a saying in my house – “Life is hard and then you die.” So while this is completely depressing, it can be true. This life is hard.
That’s the bad news. The good news – the best news – is that we don’t have to do this life alone. God longs for us to be in a relationship with him. He wants us to rely on Him and talk to him. He is our helper (Hebrews 13:5-6). We don’t have to beg for him to listen to us, and we don’t have to give him all of our money in exchange for his help. He gives it freely.
God Is Our Greatest Comfort
“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.”Psalm 94:19
The Lord’s consolation brings joy. God is our ultimate comfort, there is no worldly comfort that could bring joy to your soul. Sure, you may be able to numb the pain or forget about your problems for a while, but being able to bring the ultimate comfort comes from God Himself.
God Comforts Us Like We Comfort Our Children
As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem. ~ Isaiah 66:13

When my children are upset, like truly distressed, I will stop absolutely everything to comfort them. I will do anything in my power to make them feel better. If I think of how my heart breaks when my children are upset, I can take great comfort in knowing that God feels the same way about me. He comforts me the same way that my mom comforted me, and He comforts me the same way I comfort my children. If we just allow him to be there for us in the hard moments, He will be there for us.
So, while we are all going through trials and tribulations, draw closer to God. Seek His comfort first above all Earthly comforts. You will find greater satisfaction in Him than anything this world has to offer.
